I am simply not one to shy away from a challenge. Or suggestion. Or joking suggestion, for that matter. I tend to find the outrageous inspiring. Such is the case with the joking suggestion that I “do makeup that matches this hat. AND wear the hat in the post.” Um, no problem.

Now, while I could have taken the (very) easy way out and done a summery bronzed skin and eyeshadow with a pop of NARS Schiap and Heat Wave mixed on the lips (which, FYI is super gorgeous and you really should try), I decided to go bolder. On first instinct, doing makeup that matches this hat was a challenge to make this hat look goooooood. I decided to go with the literal interpretation and match all the colors in this hat — with blue, orange, yellow, and green eyeshadow.

When doing vividly colorful eyes, I find it best to keep the skin perfected with a natural finish. With a damp sponge and Becca Ultimate Coverage Cream Foundation in Beige, I went for full coverage “clean” makeup that let the eyes be the focal point. I concealed, then added some life back to my skin with Lune + Aster Kona bronzer, NARS Albatross to highlight, and NARS Deep Throat blush. Lots and lots of blush. I filled my brows with Senna Brow Kit and applied Charlotte Tilbury Penelope Pink lipstick. My lips were super irritated and red, so the lipstick pulled more pink than I intended. But I really like how it turned out!

My lids are a red-brown color, so it was crucial to prep them if I wanted the tropical shadows to pop. I layered NARS Pro Prime from lashes to brows, then Goddess Velvet Matte Shadow Stick lightly on the mobile lid.

The trick with the eye look was putting the colors in the right order. I used the level of brightness to determine the placement as I would any other smoky eye – brightest to the inside, darkest to the outside. Then I simply ordered the remaining shades as they appear on the color wheel.

  • Makeup Geek Creme Brulee (base for crease blending)
  • Makeup Geek Pixie Dust (bright green)
  • Makeup Geek Yellow Brick Road (yellow)
  • Makeup Geek Mango Tango (soft pink-orange in crease)
  • NARS Persia (orange)
  • NARS Giove (dark blue)
  • Makeup Geek Mermaid (bright blue)
  • Makeup Geek Bleached Blonde (inner brow to inner corner highlight)
  • Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma (browbone highlight)

I went for liquid liner on the top lashes, black gel pencil on the lower waterline, and lots of mascara, then opted not to wear false lashes because they would only get in the way of seeing all four colors on the upper lid.

Basically, this look though <3 I didn’t anticipate ever wearing it somewhere, but now I totally want to rock it for a night out. Or to the office. If I can ever get up on time  to pull that off!
