Tinted moisturizers don’t generally have a place in my life but for walks on the beach or when I know I’ll be sweating it out in the sunshine during the Florida summer heat. My days are too long and hectic for normal wear time and my undereye circles too dark to use a concealer that isn’t obvious when paired with the sheer coverage of a tinted moisturizer. I see theBalm Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer changing that, and here’s why.
While the Balm Shelter line comes in a limited three shades and runs a bit darker than the average tinted moisturizer, I love the color and coverage I get from the shade Medium. It makes my skin look very healthy and evens it out enough for daily wear. I can use my full-coverage concealers and don’t look overly made-up. The SPF 18 still gives me sun protection (hello, Sunshine State!) and the $25.00 price is reasonable for over 2 oz / 64 mL of product.
The Medium shade can be considered more of a Medium-Tan. It is swatched rather heavily above, but does sheer out well when applied to the face. A quick tip to make skin look at its best with a tinted moisturizer is to opt for a shade slightly deeper than your skin or go with a similar shade and lightly dust a bronzer all over the face.
Healthy. That’s the most simple yet accurate description for the way my skin looks with Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer applied. I consider the coverage to be equivalent to that of BB creams available in the US. Of course there are no claims from theBalm that their Tinted Moisturizer will offer the same skin healing benefits, but I get similar finished look and moisturization which are the two important factors for me.
I’ve really enjoyed using Balm Shelter as a tinted primer too. It looks incredible under theBalm Time Balm foundation, extending the foundation’s wear time by a couple of hours. I’ve also tried it under my beloved NARS Sheer Matte and love the custom coverage of the two and the minimal makeup look the combination provides.
