Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed Review, Swatch, and Comparisons

Every makeup wearer needs a natural blush and I spent a lot of time comparing various shades before choosing mine.  Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed offers me just enough pink to not appear ruddy while still giving me a natural and nude flush.  It won out over NARS Douceur which gave more brown than pink and was not flattering on my cheeks.

I love the smoothness when applying Exposed and it isn’t overly pigmented so I can build it up if I need to accentuante my cheeks more.  I also like applying this one lightly across my forehead and down my nose for a very balanced and natural skin tone.

Tarte Blush Comparison Cocoa, Mellow, Exposed, Madly

Too Faced Cocoa Rose / e.l.f. Mellow Mauve / Tarte Exposed / NARS Madly

Compared to other blushes of similar color, I get the most natural appearance with Tarte Exposed.  Too Faced Cocoa Rose is far more cool pink.  e.l.f. Mellow Mauve is definitely more mauve and the texture is almost impossible to work with.  NARS Madly is a favorite of mine, but the “seashell pink” actually shows up as a nude on me.  I’d love to see Madly compared to Exposed on someone with cooler fair skin to see what the similarities are.

I’ve been wearing Tarte Exposed a lot lately while wanting a more natural appearance.  Recently, Tiffany of WillWorkForMakeup showed a FOTD on Instagram using (what looked like) Exposed, NARS and God Created the Woman, and lip gloss.  It was gorgeous and I feel like the color palette was meant to work together.

Summary: Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed offers a very natural flush that works for minimal makeup looks, or to balance a heavy lip or eye.  The formula is easy to blend and the compact is sleek, includes a mirror, and is the same color as the blush making it easy to spot among other blushes.

This is definitely one of my favorite blushes! I always keep it in my daily makeup bag because it’s perfect for when I have no idea which blush to wear. :) PS: I really like your rating box. Adorbs!

“for when I have no idea which blush to wear.” <—-truth! So glad you commented on the rating box. I don't like many rating boxes because the criteria is soooo personal. Some people care about one thing and not another. But, I do like having a simple rating system. Just wish I could figure out the code to move it into the summary section :-/

I haven’t tried Exposed before – I tried another shade (can’t remember the name) but ended up returning it because I didn’t like the color on me (too cool). I will have to check out this one soon!

Definitely swatch it next to Douceur. It is such a toss-up between which is better because they are both perfect shades but pull completely different colors on different skin tones.

Haven’t tried this shade but I always swatch it in Sephora. I just don’t need anymore blush! Plus I kinda sort hate the packaging :S

Maybe NARS Douceur would be more your style.

  • themakeupfile

Ohhh, my absolute favorite every day blush! :D

oh i like your new little rating chart :) I’ve never quite been convinced by these blushes lol but i’ve heard so many good things about exposed. Plus it looks so good on you! Adding it to the list of things to try! :)

    • http://10amBeauty.com/ Alison M

Glad you like the raint chart. I’m still trying to decide how to make it the way I want it. Do you have any nude blushes already?

      • http://twitter.com/bronzerbunny Joyce

i don’t! that i can think of at least, lol

  • http://willworkformakeup.blogspot.com/ Tiffany

Yes, you’re right – it was Exposed! Thanks for the shout-out :) I wasn’t really into Exposed when I first got it for some reason, maybe because it was so hyped up, but I really enjoy it now. I like Douceur a lot too. Love how your FOTD came together!

I was into colorful blushes for so long. But lately I want more and more natural.

Pretty! I am all for natural pink blush.

      What’s your current favorite?

      • http://kissandmakeupsbeautyblog.wordpress.com/ Kiss & Make-up

Ooooh difficult one, do I have to choose?? :-) I really like the latest e.l.f. cream blush I got. It’s called Rose, so I am sure you can guess the color ;-)

Awesome, Alison :-)! I was just thinking about this blush today as I was looking at Sephora online. I didn’t get it after all because I wanted to swatch it first, so your post is timely. I only use 4 blushes, two are Sonia Kashuk (one pink powder, one peach cream, and technically I have her rose/red stain/liquid that is too difficult to work with … it goes on way too dark no matter how teeny tiny a drop I use), two discontinued Paula’s Choice (one peach/coral, one natural looking pink/peach/brown, both about to run out). So I’ve started researching a good natural flush color for my skin tone. I’ll definitely give this one a try at the store. Thank you!

Glad you like the post! Cocoa Rose is another great one that offers more pink. Let me know what you end up getting!

As a blushaholic, I must say this Tarte shade is SO beautiful and is definitely going on my wish list! :) I think my go-to blush is MAC Prism. :)

    • http://10amBeauty.com/ Alison M

Totally in the same shade range. MAC Prism looks a bit more brown, like Douceur. Isn’t it crazy how interesting natural shades are?

      • http://www.glambunctious.com/ Kristen / Glambunctious

Yes! They are my favorite to buy and wear! :) Douceur has been on my list for a while now but I always end up skipping it b/c I have 3 MAC blushes that seem pretty similar (Prism, Blushbaby, and Brit Wit). Clearly I have a thing for natural shade blushes! :)
