Pretty in Pink

PR Samples

It’s a week from Valentine’s Day.  You know what that means, right?  It’s time for liquid liner…EVERYWHERE.  I’ve been wondering why winged liquid liner is the thing to do.  Does it have something to do with the pin-up look being so iconic?  If you have any ideas on where the liquid-liner-for-Valentine’s-Day trend started, let me know below.

Because I felt the need to go against the grain and to do anything but a bombshell look for you all right now, I’m skipping out and offering some pretty pinks instead.  I won’t even go so far as to call this a Valentine’s Day look.  I’m skipping the whole shebang and heading straight for spring.  Don’t believe me?  My dress is sleeveless, short, and has a large cut-out in the back.  Totally not winter appropriate.

Starting with the eyes, I prepped with Urban Decay Anti-Aging Eyeshadow Primer Potion then swept Urban Decay Naked from lashline to brow bone.  I applied a wash of Urban Decay Liar to the lid, Nooner to the crease with most of the color toward the center, and patted Dust on the center of each lid with a damp brush.  The browbone and inner corner of my eyes was brightened with Urban Decay Strange.  My upper lashes were lined with Too Faced Perfect Black Orchid and smudged with a heavy amount of Urban Decay Blackheart.  I made my eyes look rounder by keeping the thickest part of the line at the center of my eyes.  Two coats of Milani Runway Lashes finished off my eyes.

I wanted my skin to be softly glowing without competing with my eyes or lips.  Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer and Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Luminous Foundation in Buff created the base.  I concealed my undereyes and any spots with NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger, then brightened my undereyes with the shade Honey.  I set everything with NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder and added Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light to the T-Zone.  I went back under my eyes and used the leftover Blackheart along my lower lashes for a touch more emphasis and filled my brows with NARS Bali.

For a look like this I always like to contour my cheek bones.  But to keep it soft I use a red or pink toned bronzer.  In this case it was Too Faced Chocolate Soleil.  Then NARS New Attitude blush gave a freshness to the apples of my cheeks.

Finally for my lips I applied Too Faced In the Buff and topped it off with Urban Decay Naked Lip Junkie Gloss.

Do you find yourself in liquid liner land? Or have you moved on to florals and pinks?

I don’t personally think of liquid liner as a Valentine’s Day thing, but I do like to wear winged liner a lot in general just because I like how it suits my eye shape. I’m loving your eye look here though, especially the purple liner! Your lashes are looking amazing, by the way.

I love liquid liner on you. I know it’s not strictly a Valentine’s Day thing, but I feel like I see more people wearing it than normal. This Milani mascara is so hit and miss. I feel like every day it’s completely different. I hope I can figure out what changes day to day because I’d love to go back to buying drugstore mascara.

What’s your favorite non-drugstore mascara, just out of curiosity? :)

Right now it’s NARS Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara. If it gave a bit more volume, it would be “the one.” I can build it with 3 coats, but that makes me finish the tube more quickly.

I’ve been playing more with the Milani and it turns out some days I was cleaning excess off the wand better than others. Don’t know yet if I’ll repurchase or not.

Oh, you look so pretty! I’m not sure about the liquid liner thing but I do think that nicely lined eyes, be it subtle or full on, can really enhance your appearance. Maybe folks like to line their eyes so there’s more focus on them if they go on hot dates. You know, the sultry eyes / bedroom eyes / come hither look.

      Could be, good point!

You look babelicious! That last shot of you is just so gorgeous! I love it. Very fresh and springy and sunny!

Funny that I finally did a post with pinks and it was like a switch flipped…now I’m all about purple, lol.

You look beautiful! I love the eye look. I think the whole winged liner thing for valentines day is supposed to be flirty and girly. I’m so jealous of your dress! I can’t wait for warmer weather.

Thanks, Natalie! I bought this dress in fall and still haven’t actually worn it…just in posts. Yikes!
