You all saw it on my Sephora VIB wish list (you know, where I mentioned already having the set…) and now I get to show you why it was there. The latest from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics includes the Lip Tar: Test Tube x 12 Set.
In case you’ve ever wanted to try Lip Tars, wondered if you’d ever make it through a full tube, or have a list that looks something like “Grandma, Vintage, Nylon, and Hoochie” (some of the popular shades I’ve been eyeing for ages), then don’t miss this one.
Are you drooling yet? The mix of every day and shock-value shades is right up my alley, and the shades that are a bit, “Ummm…whaaat?!” for you are usable for mixing. Don’t be turned off by the effort it takes to apply. These wear solidly for a good 4+ hours – that includes morning snack, coffee, and enchiladas for lunch – and are easier to reapply than they are to apply.
Let’s get right to it and see the lip swatches. I am overwhelmed by how many I love on their own and the endless possibilities.
The first group of six are warm colors (although the actual undertones are a mix of warm and cool). Zhora is a complete surprise favorite. When I read the shade description I was certain it would be a let’s-get-this-over-with swatch. But I really like it! Grandma pulls far more red on me than expected, but I really like the look. I suggested it to a friend while we shopped Sephora’s sale on Friday and it was most definitely an orange on her lips. I highly suggest giving Grandma a trial run before purchasing. And Vintage? Brighter than I expected, but a stunning shade.
I am all over neon popsicle red and Harlot is worth every second of perfecting the lip line. I’m surprised at how much I enjoy Nylon and Hoochie. I figured I would like them, but they are far more stunning than I anticipated. Sebastian is one I’ve had my eye on for awhile because I think the color is just stunning. Not going to lie… I like wearing this one. And iced? I expect to use it for mixing. But it’s a good reminder not to take makeup too seriously.
