NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam has been in my collection for a number of months now. Craving some spring color (is it still only January???), I decided to pick up a few more shades during a recent sale at Ulta.
These soft matte lip creams are housed in lipgloss-esque tubes with a doe-foot applicator. My fave! The tubes themselves are rather short (only about 1cm taller than a Too Faced La Creme), but the opacity of the color means very little product is needed for application. At $5.99 a piece and for being cruelty-free, these lip colors are a steal.
The color of each Lip Cream is true to packaging and this might be the best product for keeping true to color on the lips too. The texture and consistency is unlike any other lip product I own. As NYX says on the packaging: It’s not lipstick, nor is it gloss. It’s like nothing you’ve experienced before. It’s lipstick cream that goes on silky but looks soft matte. Yep. That’s about right. Lipgloss is wet feeling, lipstick is creamy, NYX Lip Creams are…like whipped butter? They apply smoothly and allow for mega impact.
Being a matte product, you might be thinking they must also be drying. Surprisingly, they aren’t! My lips dry out with some lip products, but these hold up well and do less harm than other mattes. They do fade in a patchy way, but reapplying or wearing a lip liner underneath solves that issue easily. And given the doe-foot applicator, reapplying is a breeze.
