I’m thrilled with the addition of Velvet Matte Skin Tint to NARS and was very eager to try it when NARS reached out to me. They have one of the best shade ranges available, and despite my skin’s current translucency and inability to find a proper match, I’m still glad for the Matte Skin Tint. St. Moritz is my former match and while it is just a bit deep for me at the moment, it will blend seamlessly in no time.

NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint in St. Moritz

My skin type is currently dehydrated with a few large pores visible on my nose. I really struggle with my skin sucking out any moisture for my makeup so I wasn’t certain how it would do with a matte finish. I prefer prepping my skin with a hydrating treatment, moisturizer, and moisturizing primer before Velvet Matte Skin Tint to keep it smooth and fresh all day. For reference, if I’m using a more luminous foundation instead, I swap out my primer with something meant for combination skin.

The finish to Velvet Matte is a very modern matte — something I would call demi-matte because “matte” still brings to mind the chalky ’90s. It is very very natural and offers more coverage and less radiance than the NARS Tinted Moisturizer. And while any applicator will work, I get the smoothest and quickest application with my hands.
