NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer Review and Swatches

Recently, I posted a tutorial on concealing undereye circles.  While there’s nothing wrong with Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer, I’m a bit of a concealaholic and love having options.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard

I caved.  Between the extra break-outs I’ve had recently, and my love of the NARS spring releases, I bought Radiant Creamy Concealer in Medium 1 Custard.  NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is an excellent addition to my collection.  There are ten shades. TEN, people!  What I love most is that the shades represent a wide variety of undertones.  So many brands focus on only peach or pink tones for undereye circles.  NARS, however, offers something for every skin tone.

When choosing a shade, my biggest suggestion is this:  Look for undertones, not sequential order.  Many early reviews are showing that bloggers needed to go a couple shades darker to find their match.  This led me to believe that I needed the shade Ginger which has a “golden undertone for medium complexion.”  When I swatched it, Ginger looked way too orange for my needs.

So I went one shade “lighter” and tried Custard for a “yellow tone for light to medium complexion.”  Custard is p.e.r.f.e.c.t. for my current NC37 skin.  It is also a match on Cafe Makeup for NC 15/20 skin.  Another thing to note is that Custard is labeled as “Medium 1” and I use a “Medium 4” foundation shade.  Both are perfect matches.  See what I’m saying?  Go by undertone.

Here is a quick comparison swatch of NARS Foundation in Barcelona, Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard, Benefit Boi-ing 02, and Tarte Maracuja Creaseless in Medium.  The NARS and Tarte formulas are both brightening and both medium to full coverage. The difference in consistency is that NARS has a more airy texture.

My face currently has a few healing blemishes (between my brows, on my forehead, side of my chin) a new blemish (jaw line at left of screen), redness around my nose, and my usual dark undereye circles.

My first concern is always how concealer performs on my undereye area.  I need full coverage, I want a close skin tone match, and a brightening effect is always appreciated.

NARS Radiant Concealer Review Before and After Undereyes

Fairly impressive, yes?  I concealed under the eye on the right side of the screen and all my criteria are met.  If I did the other side, I could leave the house….without foundation! What?!  Let’s see if Radiant Concealer is just as radiant over blemishes.

After covering both undereyes, any redness and blemishes, the concealer is invisible and my skin looks almost flawless.

NARS Radiant Concealer Review Profile After

Well done, NARS!  On its own (without primer or powder), Radiant Creamy Concealer sets and lasts 6 hours before fading.  With my usual makeup routine of primer, foundation, concealer, and powder, the NARS Radiant Concealer has real staying power, lasting 10+ hours.  This makes for one happy mama.

I finally caved and bought this too! I’m loving it for both redness and dark circles so it gets an A++ in my book! :)

    • Alison M

Exactly!! I love experimenting with products, but if I can use only one to handle it all? BAM. Instant happiness.

  • Tiffany

Great review! I have Custard too, and I’m only an NC20, so you’re right about focusing on undertones. I use that one for blemishes, but I prefer the shade Honey for my under-eyes though because it has pink-undertones and covers my dark circles better. Loving these though!

  • themakeupfile

WOW Alison! I feel like the concealer side actually brought out your eyes more.

I enjoyed all the pictures. :p See, I like picture heavy posts!

    • Alison M

Hahaha, I didn’t include *all* the photos I originally planned, but I also think this post wouldn’t work as well with any less than I used.

This concealer let’s my eyes take more of a spotlight instead of hiding above such shadows. I love it!

WOW!! The side-by-side comparison really shows off what this concealer can do – you look flawless. And without foundation?! I think I know what’s going on my Sephora wish list next. Thanks for the undertones advice. I like MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter and Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Concealer (does the name need to be THAT long?! Come on, guys) and use one or the other every day. LOL that you’re a concealer hoarder. I’m that way with foundation! And blush. :)

  • Teri

Now this is impressive indeed! You can totally walk out the door like this, no need for foundation at all! I’m slightly scared of the word ‘creamy’ in this product because I have oily skin. I kinda wonder if it works for me because it does a great job on you!

    • Alison M

I still do like wearing foundation so my skin is more flawless…there’s definitely a difference. But on really low-maintenance days, I’m totally fine with the coverage in that second to last photo. It’s so nice having a rather full-coverage concealer that isn’t obvious on the skin!

  • Arianne

Great review! I am around NC35 and the SA “matched” me to Ginger. Looked great at the counter but it looked really golden (nice word for “jaundiced” LOL) in other lighting.

I’m curious about Honey actually, since I really like the brightening effect of peach correctors. I wonder if it’ll still work. I think I’ll pick one up this week!

    • Alison M

Shade matching is such a nightmare with almost any product. I recently tested a foundation sample for a week and the shade looked great so I bought a full-size. All of a sudden, the shade was definitely not right. Thank goodness for exchanges, lol. Glad you like the review, I can’t wait to see yours if (okay, when!) you buy it :)

Wow this looks really great on you for sure! It’s just unfortunately a little drying for my old eyes haha!

    • Alison M

My family gets droopy upper eyelids really young. I’ve already noticed mine dropping. I’m open to any and all lifting/firming/tightening eye creams you want to recommend!

  • brigidbeauty

HOLY CRAP! that is an ASTONISHING difference!!!! Oh, I think I may need to pick this one up…. also, love the idea of something both creamy and radiant. My undereye area is feeling rather tender these days.

    • Alison M

Adore this one :) I still go back to Tarte Maracuja Creaseless concealer on random occasions…for no reason in particular…but NARS is on a pedestal for me :)
