NARS Mata Hari Blush Swatch and Comparisons

I’ve been looking for Mr. Right lately.  Someone who could give me the perfect spring flush.  As always, I turned to NARS.  Being a medium-tan skin tone has its perks, but I also feel like the pink shade range is lacking.  Most spring shades are light and cool, excellent for fair skin.  But what about those of us who want the ultra feminine coloring but have a warm and easily tanned complexion?

NARS Mata Hari Blush

My inspiration came from a post on Lifestyle Mirror featuring Rose Byrne in NARS Mata Hari blush.  The shade wasn’t pink.  It wasn’t mauve (the only “pink” that tends to work for us with NC37 and darker skin) and it wasn’t quite a berry.  It was, however, right on all counts.  With enough depth to actually show up on my skin, the right balance of cool and warm to look fairly natural, and a formula that hasn’t let me down, Mata Hari was the ideal choice for spring pink.

NARS Mata Hari and comparison packaging

On the drive home from making my purchase, I began to feel severe buyer’s remorse.  Before purchasing Mata Hari, I wasn’t able to find swatch comparisons online.  So shade after shade of blush I already own started flashing through my mind and I thought surely I already owned a dupe.

NARS Mata Hari Comparison SwatchesNARS Mata Hari is third from the left.  Comparisons below from left to right.

Sonia Kashuk Flushed is a vibrant neutral-cool shade of hot pink.  theBalm Cabana Boy is one of the closest matches, but has a slight sheen and is more of a dusty plum.  NARS Mata Hari is a neutral (almost neutral-warm) light rose shade with just enough raspberry to give it a fresh brightness for spring.  Tarte Flush is a deep raspberry packed with pigment.  NARS Dolce Vita is a dusty rose mauve.  theBalm Down Boy is a cool pink with lavender undertones.

Of course when blended out and worn, the nuances of these shades are more obvious.  But the above swatches only confirm that Mata Hari is exactly what I wanted.

I own Tarte Flush and The Balm Down Boy, so it’s good to know I won’t be buying a dupe! Thanks for the great review!

Great review, and thanks for the comparison! In spring I always go for peach and coral blushes. I am really liking my new Smashbox Halo Longwear blushes.

peach and coral are my stand-by shades all year round but get a lot of wear from me during the summer months. I’ve never tried Smashbox blushes and should really look into them.

Great swatch comparisons, Alison! Thanks! Love NARS blushes. My go-to shade lately has been L’Oreal Magic Smoothe Souffle Blush in Plume. It melts into the skin and stays put no matter how humid it’s been here. LOVE! :)

What a beautiful shade! I’ve heard such great things about L’Oreal’s Souffle formula.
