I’ve been looking for a glamorous makeup look to do. Something inspired by the runway with a dark smoky eye and shimmering skin. When I think of ultra-glowy skin I automatically think of Victoria’s Secret models so a little search led me to a look worn by Alessandra Ambrosio. I really like the mix of brown around the black and grey eyeshadows so I came up with my own version to share with you.
I was pleased to learn that Alessandra uses Joanna Vargas Exfoliating Mask.* Because this is already in my skin care arsenal, I like to think I’m on the way to Victoria Secret model skin ;) After a 10 minute mask session followed by Tarte Maracuja C-Brighter Eye Treatment and The Body Shop Vitamin C Daily Moisturizer, I was ready to move on to makeup.
In a look like this, it’s important to start with eye makeup. I primed with Too Faced Shadow Insurance and then laid down a base of NARS Aigle Noir Soft Touch Shadow Pencil from my lashline to my crease. With a flat shader brush I patted Urban Decay Shroom eyeshadow over the top being careful not to disturb the creamy pencil underneath. For the crease I swept NARS Bengali back and forth and slowly built up the color.
There are a number of ways to create that sexy shimmer and I thought about adding a liquid highlighter to my foundation. But I worried it would be too much for my T-Zone so here’s what I did instead – Sonia Kashuk Priming Vitamin Serum* was my first step, followed quickly by NARS Stromboli Sheer Glow Foundation* for an effortless look that didn’t sacrifice coverage. I concealed under my eyes and over any blemishes with NARS Ginger Radiant Creamy Concealer. Then I dotted Honey Radiant Creamy Concealer under the inner corners of my eye for added brightness. Everything was set with NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder. After all…it had to be picture perfect.
I defined my brows with Sonia Kashuk Taupe and used Anastasia Brow Gel in Espresso to emphasize individual hairs.
To contour the top of my forehead, under my cheek bones, and along the side of my jaw I used Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer. I decided not to bronze further, but instead to sweep Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light lightly over my entire face. Josie Maran Coconut Water Cheek Gelee in Poppy Paradise added the only color to the look. Dabbing it onto my cheeks with my fingers, I worked up the color until it balanced the strong eye. I added the necessary shimmer with Sonia Kashuk Chic Luminosity Highlighter Stick in Sparkling Sand to the tops of my cheek bones and blending upward in a ‘C’ above my eyebrows as well as down the bridge of my nose and at my cupid’s bow.
I finished off my eyes with Too Faced Perfect Eyes Eyeliner in Perfect Black along the tightline, waterline, and upper lashline, gently smudging the top edge. For the lower lashline I started by applying Bengali. Then I added Shroom right at my lashes. Looking back, I wish I had taken Bengali further down, but I still haven’t figured out the right application without looking like a huge mistake. Let me know if you have any suggestions! For my lashes I went with two coats of NARS Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara.* I seriously love this one.
The finishing touches were NARS Honolulu Honey Lipstick* and Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Bunny followed by a quick all over spritz of Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray.*
If you’re noticing a difference in my photos lately, I got a new camera lens from Mr. M as a birthday gift. I’m still working out exactly how I like to use it, but so far I’m mega-impressed with the color accuracy and background brightness. It’s making (the very limited) editing I do so much easier because I don’t have to brighten things anymore. The best part about this look was that I actually got to wear it for a night out when Mr. M took me to dinner for my birthday! Score one for taking fun makeup somewhere other than the grocery store or play group :)
When did you last have the urge to do a glamorous makeup look?
