Scrolling through POPSUGAR’s Best Celebrity Looks recently brought me to this photo of Jessica Alba shot at the Guys Choice Awards. I’ve been playing around with cool pinks on warm skin so I initially noticed how her lipstick was worn. And once I saw the intense black eyeshadow, I knew I had to play with NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Sycorax (swatch) some more. Believe it or not, this look took about 15 minutes. If I concealed less blemishes, it would have been closer to 10!
Like always, I started with the eyes and a base of Too Faced Shadow Insurance. Using a damp brush I took NARS Sycorax and patted it onto my entire mobile lid up to (but not into) the crease. I used a small dry fluffy brush to buff more of Sycorax through the crease and to soften the harsh edge of where I applied it wet. Using the same brush, I buffed Urban Decay Naked from above my crease and up to my eyebrows. To get the inner eyelid sparkle, I tapped Urban Decay Gunmetal over the black at the inner 1/4 of each eye and gently buffed it toward the center. Because I wasn’t feeling like falsies, I took a quick thin line of Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner in Black to my upper lashes, then used Too Faced Perfect Eyes in Black on my waterlines. I finished with one coat of Wet n Wild Mega Plump Waterproof and 2 coats of Mega Impact Mascaras.
After smoothing Becca Resurfacing Primer over the center of my face (seriously awesome stuff), I mixed Becca Olive Radiant Skin Satin Finish Foundation and NARS St. Moritz Radiant Tinted Moisturizer before buffing them into my skin. NARS Honey Concealer and Ginger Radiant Creamy Concealer brightened and covered under my eyes and over blemishes.
I set everything with NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder and dusted Hourghlass Dim Light over my T-Zone and cheeks. I’m digging Jessica’s hair color and tanned skin. To bring my own skin and hair colors a little closer, I went heavy on the bronzer sweeping Too Faced Chocolate Soleil at the top of my forehead, along my temples, cheekbones, and jawline.
For lips I chose NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Bangkok. I wanted a little bit deeper of a pink than Jessica’s and this one worked out nicely. I normally go with a lighter blush when I do lighter lips. But to get the same subtle red, I used my fingers to blend Becca Dragonfruit Beach Tint into the upper and outer areas of my cheeks.
Topping it all off (literally) I kept my brows fairly thin and added individual hairs with Tarte Amazonian Clay Brow Mousse in Medium Brown.
I gotta tell you…this look and a little black dress are one heck of a way to perk up an overcast Thursday afternoon!
