Have you tried aromatherapy? It’s a new stress relief method for me, but with my appreciation for really yummy fragrances I have high hopes for aromatherapy.
I’m planning to use Aveda Stress-Fix on our upcoming trip to keep my unnoticed tension at bay. I have a tendency to get a migraine shortly after a big event and I think it is caused by hidden stress. For example, the last time we moved from one city to another I thought I was handling it well. But the instant we signed the paperwork and walked into our new home, a migraine hit and I was ill for the rest of the night. This trend is repeating itself whenever life gets too crazy. The first opportunity I get to relax, a headache starts. And as we have three airplanes and fifteen hours of travel with two small children ahead of us, I’d rather be proactive this time. No sense in saying hi to the in-laws and then collapsing in a heap until the next day.
My plan is to keep Stress-Fix Concentrate in my carry-on. I can dab it on my wrists as needed then use this helpful technique from Aveda.
- Place your index and middle finger on the point between the eyebrows.
- Use your thumb to close your right nostril and inhale through the left.
- Close the left nostril with your ring finger and exhale through the right.
- Inhale through the right nostril.
- Close the right nostril and exhale through the left.
- Repeat for 3-10 minutes.
…Okay, so I just tried it. Reading through the instructions made it sound weird and awkward, but I’ll admit that the breathing was quite relaxing. Score one for having a calming technique in hand when I’m on a plane full of people.
Our little family of four enjoys different calming techniques. I enjoy fragrances. My children will prefer the lotion, and Mr. M spends time in a bath so I’m sure he will be quick to put the soaking salts to use.
