Fashionable Fridays: 3 Ways to Wear Turquoise Eyeliner

Turquoise is hot this summer. I first fell in love when I saw the Tarte Aqualillies Summer 2013 collection.  The Waterproof Amazonian Clay Eyeliner in Splash (used for the following looks) is my shade of choice this season.

I recently saw vivid eyeliner in a photo of Taylor Swift and now I’m seeing it on lashlines everywhere.  While this perfect-for-high-temperatures shade is undoubtedly gorgeous, it’s not a color every woman is jumping for.  If you’re still hesitating on the blue-green front, try these suggestions for ways to wear turquoise eyeliner:

1.  Boldly – As Eyeshadow:  Any creamy formula (pot or pencil) will work well as an eyeshadow.  Keep the color below the crease and angle out the corner.  I used this brush to cleanly spread and shape the liner into eyeshadow.  Be sure to highlight the inner corner of your eye with a shimmering champagne to let the full-color lid remain light and playful.  If you feel this is too much color, try lining your waterline and between your upper lashes with a chocolate brown pencil.

2.  Artsy – As Winged Lower Liner:  This is a fabulous way to approach turquoise if you are like me and enjoy a light-handed smoky eye.  Use neutral eyeshadows on the lid, crease, and browbone.  Finish eyeshadow with a dot of shimmering nude in the center of the upper lid.  Use a black eyeliner on the upper lashline.  Keep it thin and be sure to wing out the end from the corner of the eye toward the end of the eyebrow.  Follow with turquoise liner on the lower lashline.  At the corner, leave space and follow the upper wing as a guide for the lower.  I like to keep my lower liner wing shorter than the upper one.

3.  Simple – A Pop of Color:  After applying a shimmering nude eyeshadow all over the lid, lightly define the crease with a matte mid-tone brown.  Line the upper lashline (thick or thin) with turquoise, again winging the outer corner (try this tip).  Fill the brows and keep them crisp for maximum effect of the eyeliner.  Line the waterline, preferably with a shimmering or metallic nude liner.

No matter how you choose to sport this summer favorite, remember: mascara, mascara, mascara, and wing that outer corner!
