While you’re out and about between Christmas and New Year’s (maybe even on vacation?), be sure to bring essence cosmetics with you. While the price for each is minuscule, the waterproof eyeliners, mascara, and eyeshadow pencils are nothing to scoff at.
Stays No Matter What Jumbo Eye Pencil & Shadows in Chocolate Brownie and Twinkling Turquoise are my absolute favorites from this bunch. Creamy, rich, and blendable, I’m a big fan and want to pick up more shades – they are only $1.49 each! Okay, I want all of the shades. These are really well done and I’ve been looking for a cruelty free cream shadow that stays put to use as an eyeshadow base. These foot the bill.
I have a love-hate relationship with the Gel Eye Pencils ($2.99 each). The pigmentation is intense, they definitely stay put, but I don’t get a perfectly smooth line and they don’t like my waterline. In the end, I find these best suited for smudging or applying with a brush in which case…gorgeous!
As a recovering waterproof mascara addict, Lash Mania mascara speaks to me. The wand is like having six combs rather than a brush and it is quite flexible where the brush head attaches to the rest of the wand so the mascara drags through the lashes perfectly. I get length and oh-so-long-lasting hold for my curl. Not to mention my lashes are separated and feathery light. There is a bit of flaking with this one, but at $4.99 and for occasional waterproof needs, I’m not complaining.
The Eyeliner Pen has a fine felt tip that is more stiff than the brush tip kind I’ve been working with lately. It takes more pressure than I’m used to for a smooth line and I haven’t mastered the technique for this one yet, but I’m going to keep trying. Black, black, black with a finish that is neither shiny nor matte. I’m diggin’ this $2.99 option.
My official test run went a little something like this…
Apply Jumbo Eye Pencil in Chocolate Brownie on the mobile lid and blend into the crease with a finger. Blend out with brown powder eyeshadow and highlight with a shimmering light pink. Apply Around Midnight Gel Eye Pencil on the waterline (or better yet, lower lashline – it sticks better). Add Blue Lagoon just under the outer 1/2 of the lower lashes and smudge it out with a small shader brush. Apply Black Blaze Gel Eye Pencil to the upper lash line with the same small shader brush. Curl the lashes and finish with two coats of Lash Mania Waterproof Mascara.
For affordable and wearable pops of color, I definitely recommend checking out the waterproof options from essence. When do you reach for waterproof makeup?
